The Fortunate Seven: One airman’s exceptional true wartime story of escape and evasion from German-occupied Europe, and the courageous résistance fighters who delivered him to freedom. by Norman W. Holden
My ranking: 4 of 5 stars
Fortunate Seven is biographical fiction set throughout World-Struggle-Two. I learn this e book straight after Trial And Tribulation by John Rhodes, wherein one in every of his major characters flew Mosquito plane that escorted the bigger American bomber planes on their strategy to Germany.
Fortunate Seven is the true story of an American co-pilot of a type of bombers, James Goebel. The story follows Goebel from his later college years, by becoming a member of the American Airforce, his coaching as a pilot and his a part of a crew who had been shot down over occupied Belgium. Creator Norm Holden is Goebel’s son-in-law; he pieced collectively Goebel’s story from different airmen, historians and from memoirs of each Goebel and one other crew member who was a part of Goebel’s rescued group.
This tells the story of the courageous women and men who labored within the resistance or who confirmed human kindness in excessive situations. It doesn’t sugar-coat the casualties and the hardships, however presents this piece of historical past in a really readable format. This e book could be perfect for these involved in actual life conflict tales, historians, and people doing analysis into the period.
