Job description
The Environmental Resilience Institute on the College of Virginia (UVA) is launching a brand new International-to-Neighborhood Local weather Analysis Collaborative (G2C) Fellowship Program. The fellowship program seeks to recruit 9 postdoctoral analysis associates over the subsequent 5 years and can develop UVA’s experience within the analysis areas of local weather dynamics, impacts, and motion.
The local weather dynamics undertaking for which we’re at present promoting entails regional hydroclimate modifications. On this undertaking, the analysis associates will use world and regional local weather fashions, to characterize future modifications in hydroclimate within the southeastern United States. The associates can even work with different researchers who’ve experience in local- scale hydrological fashions to assist lifelike and equitable coverage and apply inside communities. The undertaking will focus not solely on modifications in imply hydroclimate, but in addition modifications in seasonality, variability, and excessive occasions and the implications for these modifications on the community-scale degree. The associates will bridge the experience between global-scale modelers, who deal with understanding the large-scale local weather dynamics that contribute to uncertainty in future projections of the hydrological cycle, and local-scale modelers, who perceive the local-scale elements mandatory to include into fashions to supply actionable info to community-scale choice makers.
Since local weather change is anticipated to more and more have an effect on deprived, usually underrepresented communities, the G2C Fellowship Program is very focused on together with students with backgrounds which might be underrepresented in local weather change analysis. This system encourages purposes from researchers throughout traditionally underrepresented teams. This consists of race, ethnicity and nationwide origins, gender and gender id, sexuality, class, tradition, and faith. We purpose to construct a very numerous and inclusive cohort of researchers the place numerous views are acknowledged, revered, and seen as a supply of energy.
The postdoctoral analysis associates will work as a cohort and can obtain skilled assist and coaching, technical assist, and computational infrastructure tailor-made to this system. Fellows will every work instantly with two college members in numerous Faculties to construct cross-disciplinary fluency in assist of their very own analysis.
To be eligible, candidates will need to have obtained or will obtain their Ph.D. diploma by December 2022. A background in atmospheric science and expertise working with world and/or regional local weather fashions are most well-liked. There is no such thing as a citizenship requirement. Every G2C fellow will probably be appointed for 2 years contingent on a profitable annual evaluate.
