Black Artist Database co-founder NIKS takes us on a visit by intergalactic home and techno.
DJ, educator and group chief NIKS’ cross-disciplinary work has drawn on the Black inventive expertise from a younger age. Within the early 2000s she watched her father play on the Glastonbury Pageant, and her brother, who was concerned in London’s storage and home scene shared tapes and CDs together with her. When she was learning for a Sociology diploma on the College of Bathtub, specialising within the experiences of Black ladies in academia, she took up DJing, impressed by the approaches of Mr G. and Kerri Chandler to develop a mode that creates moments of intimate dancefloor connectivity.
In 2020, because the pandemic uncovered racial injustices throughout the globe, NIKS watched as Bandcamp Friday provided a lifeline to unbiased artists and commenced work on a challenge that will higher assist Black artists profit from it.
