Penn State launches statewide environmental monitoring community — Penn State Meteorology and Atmospheric Science

Every station is photo voltaic powered with battery backup and transmits one-minute measurements in real-time through a cell modem connection. Stations measure air temperature and relative humidity, wind pace and route, photo voltaic radiation, air strain, rainfall, and have an environmental digicam that reveals native circumstances. UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State has established a publicly accessible, environmental monitoring community to offer enhanced surveillance of atmospheric and soil circumstances throughout Pennsylvania.

The Pennsylvania Environmental Monitoring Community at present consists of 17 stations, with plans quickly to greater than double that quantity to 50 stations throughout the commonwealth. The community consists of monitoring gear positioned at Penn State campuses and analysis services, state parks, and airports across the state.

The expanded community will website many stations at Okay-12 college campuses throughout the state and, by means of a collaboration with Greencastle-Antrim college district, STEM curriculum is being developed that can get real-time environmental information into school rooms.
