Half 2 levels Joseph Okay and the Price of Residing directed by Lorne Campbell with Kel and Anthony Matsena. A daring and visionary adaptation of Franz Kafka’s The Trial by author Emily White weaves the nightmare of an harmless man’s arrest and trial into an thrilling, up to date efficiency that highlights the excessive value all of us pay once we are on the mercy of arbitrary and unaccountable energy.
Author Emily White says: ‘The price of residing disaster has been prompted in the principle half by the greed and corruption of the principle ache of our society. As a way to divert our consideration from the true supply of our issues, we’re seeing a daunting resurgence of fascist rhetoric being utilized by authorities officers scapegoating and blaming poor individuals, immigrants, asylum seekers, LGBTQ+ individuals, girls, unions, protestors, and many others. There are numerous methods to interpret the story of The Trial, however my adaptation: Joseph Okay and the Price of Residing is in regards to the nature of state-led persecution, the people the system chooses to persecute and why.”
Co-director Kel Matsena stated: “I’m extremely excited to be engaged on such a related and dwell piece of theatre. Kafka’s work is monstrous, extremely wealthy and speaks so clearly to the world we at present dwell in. It’s an honour for me to be bringing this work to Swansea, town I grew up in, town I name residence. To create an area the place the individuals I grew up with can come and see themselves mirrored in a strong, dynamic and high-quality piece of theatre is an actual honour.
Individuals can anticipate the surprising. My pre-conceptions have been challenged at each step of the method. Emily White has executed an extremely humorous and emotional adaption and humour is one thing I by no means anticipated in work like this. Additionally attending to direct alongside Anthony Matsena and Lorne Campbell is an actual deal with. We’ve a stellar forged of actors and a inventive staff who’ve particular connections to Wales.
The night concludes with Half 3: F**okay the Price of Residing, in partnership with Grand Ambition. A gig of music stuffed with pleasure and catharsis to empower and encourage you. The right protest music for the second. With Minas, Ayoub, and HMS Morris
