Mild Arctic Entrance Snow for Western Washington.

In a paper I wrote a number of years in the past on western Washington snowstorms, I checklist a number of methods snow can fall within the space.

All needed to discover a approach to offer precipitation and chilly on the similar time–which may be very troublesome in our neck of the woods.

One solution to get snow…usually mild snow.. is with the passage of an Arctic Entrance (actually a modified Arctic Entrance, however who’s checking?)

And we’re going to get some snow from such an Arctic Entrance passage on late Tuesday and on Wednesday morning.

In a western Washington Arctic Entrance passage, chilly air from the inside of British Columbia surges southwestward by way of the Fraser River Valley and jets out simply north of Bellingham.  The frigid circulate splits across the Olympics with a river of chilly air pushing southwards over Puget Sound.

The Arctic air collides with hotter/moist air to the south, pushing a few of it upwards producing clouds, precipitation, and sure, snow.

Later tomorrow, the Arctic air will push southward, as illustrated by the forecast floor winds at 10PM Tuesday proven under.

A band of snow will kind at its vanguard, as proven by the forecast  3-hr snowfall complete ending at 7 PM tomorrow.

The expected snowfall complete (NOT SNOW DEPTH) Thursday morning exhibits .5 to 1 inch from south Seattle northwards, with extra on the east aspect.   Way more snow within the mountains   A band of snow can even happen upstream of the blocking Olympics.

I do not need to hype this….not the tip of the world.  However a lot of you round Puget Sound will see some flakes.   There may be extra snow over SW Washington, the place they may get some precipitation from a weak low alongside the northern Oregon Coast.

The mornings the subsequent few days might be chilly….nicely under freezing, so be ready.

And speaking about being ready, some large swell might be approaching our coast tomorrow and Wednesday as nicely, with some waves above 20 ft.  Sturdy northwesterly winds with a big fetch are a giant contributor.  Between the waves and the chilly, not a very good time for cruising.
