I believe this was constructed because the church corridor for Trinity Presbyterian Church. The church was based in 1863 and the corridor was constructed the next 12 months, the church coming later in 1870. The church closed in 1941 and each church and corridor had been used as factories. The church burnt down in 1953. This constructing was actually nonetheless in use by Dossetter within the Seventies however since I photographed it has been changed by flats. The block at left continues to be there.

It was renamed as merely Maryland in 1940 and the brand new buildings had been constructed through the battle years in LNER Artwork Deco model, designed by Sir Thomas Penberthy Bennett, then Director of Bricks on the Ministry of Works. Later he was to be the primary architect for Crawley New City and Stevenage. Community SuuthEast, created in 1982, later added their signal which I believe matches moderately nicely with the remainder.

I couldn’t stroll by Scorchers, a 24hr Ironing Service with out photographing their signage. I believe their 24hrs was the turnaround time somewhat than suggesting folks might need an pressing want for some ironing at say, 3am which they might rush to take care of, although I did have a imaginative and prescient of a van with flashing blue lights and an ironing board speeding by means of the streets. I can’t now discover the precise location and suppose these buildings could have been on a facet avenue and have in all probability since been demolished.
