📚First E-book In A New #UrbanFantasy Collection. Rosie’s #BookReview of The Graveyard Watch by R. J. Eason.

The Graveyard Watch by R.J. Eason
My score: 4 of 5 stars

The Graveyard Watch is the primary e book in an city fantasy collection set in London.

It opens with pathologist Jocasta as she begins a brand new job for an odd legislation enforcement division, the place she is plunged right into a supernatural world that features vampires, werewolves, a gnome and a captain along with his personal secrets and techniques. These stunning new circumstances pull her swiftly alongside, however it’s her methodical scientific thoughts that retains her grounded on multiple event.

A plot is afoot to sabotage the crowning of the brand new underworld king, and, because the coronation date attracts close to, Jocasta and the crew should attempt to thwart the plans. There’s a little bit of historic again story and at first the narrative flips forwards and backwards between characters and historic settings, however it quickly converges to the fashionable day timeline.

I loved the London setting for this story and the predominant characters have been quirky and likeable. I used to be much less eager on the dialogue fashion for the French and German characters which used largely vernacular speech. I don’t thoughts a sprinkling of dialect, however right here much less would have been extra as I discovered it slowed the tempo of studying.

The plot moved swiftly and there was sufficient motion to maintain me invested within the story. I appreciated the underlying romantic theme and will probably be to see the place the writer takes the collection within the subsequent e book.

E-book Description:

Who do you name when the corpse has died once more?

Jocasta Lewis wants a job. What she doesn’t want is gnome forensics, terrifying monsters, a werewolf with an unhealthy curiosity in her love life and a police captain who will (actually) raise her off her toes.

Domingo de Torres needs vengeance. And he’s waited a very long time for it. An especially very long time. Now it needs to be easy sufficient, if it weren’t for vampire murders and immortal weapons getting in the best way. Oh, and that historic collision of sovereignty, energy and management. Yeah, that too…

Anticipated publication February 2024.
