New Taipei Performing Arts Heart opens in Taiwan


Following a creation interval of 10 years, Taiwan‘s new Taipei Performing Arts Heart has lastly opened.

Co-designed by the Dutch duo Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten, of OMA, the 13-storey aluminium and glass dice construction consists of three auditoria: a 1500-seat Grand Theatre, an 800-seat Blue Field Theatre (which, when mixed, make a 2300-seat Tremendous Theatre for the most important productions) and an 800-seat Globe Playhouse. Positioned above Taipei’s Shilin Evening Market, the TPAC is designed to coexist with the town’s ‘vibrant avenue tradition’, within the phrases of David Gianotten, OMA’s Managing Accomplice. ‘For us, this mixture of cultures aptly captures the power of Taipei, a metropolis at all times open to modifications,’ he explains.
