New movie tells the story of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra


A brand new BBC Arts movie tells the story behind the creation of the newly shaped Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra, an ensemble of 75 instrumentalists shaped as a musical response to Russia’s army motion in Ukraine.

Within the movie, presenter Clive Myrie meets members of this orchestra and their households, exploring how and why this band of musicians has joined forces in a warzone. He follows the tales of the musicians as they arrive collectively for his or her first rehearsal in Warsaw, then give their inaugural live performance forward of a tour of Europe and the USA, together with a efficiency on the BBC Proms.

Myrie mentioned: ‘There has all the time been a cultural frontline on this warfare and I needed to replicate that wrestle. This documentary I hope shines a light-weight on Ukraine’s inventive achievements in addition to inventive spirit, regardless of the struggling.’

The Freedom Orchestra (working title) might be broadcast on BBC Two and iPlayer this September. The Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra’s Promenade is now accessible on BBC iPlayer and might be broadcast on BBC Two on 7 August at 6.25pm.
