Glad Mondays bassist Paul Ryder has died aged 58


Paul Ryder, bassist of Glad Mondays and brother of frontman Shaun, has died on the age of 58.

The information was revealed by the band on social media, with no reason behind dying or additional particulars but given.

They wrote: “The Ryder household and Glad Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder handed away this morning. A real pioneer and legend. He can be endlessly missed.

“We thanks for respecting the privateness of all involved at the moment. Lengthy reside his funk x”

Ryder fashioned the band alongside brother Shaun in 1980, enjoying by till their preliminary cut up in 1993. Whereas not becoming a member of a reunion the band held in 2004, he did rejoin Glad Mondays for an additional set of reunion dates in 2012, which had continued for the next decade to the current day.

Tributes from these within the Manchester music scene and past have been pouring in for Ryder on-line because the information was introduced, with Ian Brown writing: “REST IN PEACE PAUL RYDER A GREAT FRIEND A GREAT MUSICIAN A GREAT FELLA BIG LOVE TO AMELIA JACOB SONNY CHICO AND THE FAMILY AND BAND LOVE YA LONGTIME PABS X”

Haçienda DJ Dave Haslam added: Actually very sorry to listen to of the dying of Paul Ryder – he made an enormous contribution to Glad Mondays and was good firm and a high fella RIP.”

The band have been set to headline London’s Kaleidoscope Pageant subsequent weekend (July 23) at Alexandra Palace, and performed Buckinghamshire’s Bigfoot Pageant final month.
