The Poppy Sisters by Deborah Carr
My ranking: 3 of 5 stars
3.5 stars
The Poppy Sisters is ready throughout World Warfare I and is the story of two sisters. Phoebe is a VAD (volunteer nurse) in France and Celia is a skilled nurse in Jersey.
The chapters swap forwards and backwards following the tales of the sisters as they each fall in love with sufferers. Phoebe’s story incorporates a visit to stick with the sister of one of many docs in a tiny Cornish village which was a pleasant location change in the course of the story.
Celia’s story feels darker with a barely sinister contact. Celia is a nurse in a prisoner-of-war camp and I used to be all the time questioning how it could all finish.
I learn various struggle tales, however much less from the time of The Nice Warfare. This was a straightforward learn which flowed effectively and though it was unhappy in locations, typically it didn’t mirror the brutality of the time.
