A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier
My ranking: 4 of 5 stars
A Single Thread is set in and round Winchester within the Thirties.
Violet is thirty-eight and resigned to spinsterhood after the demise of her fiancé through the World Conflict I. Decided to not stay a nursemaid to her widowed mom, Violet strikes from Southampton to Winchester.
Town’s cathedral fascinates Violet and it’s right here that she discovers Violet makes a request to hitch the group; it’s a place the place she hopes to make mates whereas serving to a great trigger. Violet can be within the cathedral bells and the bellringers; she makes mates with Arthur who invitations her to see and listen to the bells being rung.
On this story the story is fastidiously woven just like the threads of the kneeler designs. The creator makes the story fascinating with snippets about bell ringing and the stitching, whereas creating a really plausible story about household, relationships, the place and the period.
The care and depth of analysis taken by Chevalier shines via. From the creator notes in the back of the guide, Louisa Pesel, the character who designs the needlepoint, was actual ,which I slightly like, particularly in a well-written story. That is the second guide that I’ve learn by this creator, the primary was Exceptional Creatures, each of which I can advocate.
