The Gods Of Sanibel by Brian Cook dinner

An attention-grabbing ebook.  I used to be barely postpone in the beginning, as a result of the primary feminine character’s identify is ‘Kak’, a nick-name as a result of her initials are Okay.A.Okay.  The American creator in all probability doesn’t know that the phrase ‘cack’ is English slang for one thing lavatorial, so I winced each time I learn it!

Mainly, the story is about Kak and Rudy, who meet at defining moments of their lives.  Kak’s downside is that she doesn’t need to develop into an appendage to her husband-to-be, a good-looking, wealthy physician from a rich, controlling household.  Rudy is a company large shot, and has an epiphany when he sees how firm coverage has introduced devastation to employees additional down the chain within the firm he makes cash for.

I beloved studying Rudy’s sections – he was an awesome character, so likable, and I loved studying all in regards to the hellish world of amassing the billions at any value.  I used to be not so eager on Kak, who got here throughout (to me, anyway) as dithery and self-indulgent and, like Rudy, I grew uninterested in her speaking in semi-riddles.  The principle downside for me about the entire plot was this: if she didn’t need to marry Phillip, why didn’t she simply … not marry him?  There didn’t seem like any love there.  She might have simply walked away.

Regardless of just a few modifying errors (names altering, the odd homonym – I feel Phillip turns into Andrew at one level), the writing itself is nice.  The dialogue is tight, sensible and amusing, with some nice throw-away remarks and quips.  This was what made me need to hold studying, in addition to discovering out what occurred.  I discovered the novel considerably disjointed at first and saved having to return so I might work out what was really taking place when – dates may need helped – however it kinds itself out by about 10%.

To sum up – there’s lots of good things on this ebook, however I feel it might do with one other draft or two.
