The Beekeeper’s Promise by Fiona Valpy
My ranking: 4 of 5 stars
The Beekeeper’s Promise is a twin time-line story based mostly in France.
Chapters dot backwards and forwards between Abi in 2017 and Eliane throughout the years of the Second World Battle. Whereas Abi discovers the peace she wants after a merciless marriage, she learns of Eliane’s warfare story.
Eliane and her household performed an element within the resistance throughout the time when Germany occupied France. She was a beekeeper and labored in an area Chateau each in the home and gardens. Her household ran the native mill and helped the resistance the place they might.
This was fairly a slow-paced story after the opening chapters, nevertheless it picked up as soon as the warfare started. I grew to become fairly invested in Eliane’s story, even preferring her chapters to these of Abi. Though a lot of the story is fiction, the writer did weave within the horrible occasions that came about in Tulle, close to the top of the warfare which had been fairly harrowing to examine.
General, an fulfilling story for individuals who like their warfare themed historic fiction.
